DIARY

Keep up-to-date with what goes on here at Little Oinkers

Saturday 30th July

Today our beloved Pinky and Perky are leaving us. I feel quite sad as I feel as though they are our pets, as we have had them for 11 months now.  None-the-less, they now have new owners to go to.

My sister and I were up earlier than usual this morning and feeding all the pigs and chickens, as Pinky and Perky needed to have their breakfast asap, then they were to get ready for their departure.  My sister has little experience in this field, but we had to get them into the large pet cage and then transport them up to the driveway.

It was a little time consuming, they seemed to know something was going on.  I had their main gate open and the cage with its door open in the gateway.  I put all their straw from their house into the cage to make it look a little inviting (I think I’m kidding myself here), I was crouched down with a pot of fruit and veggies. Every time I threw some of it into the cage it would sink right through the straw, then they lost interest and off they would go again. Wow! this is fun!

Finally, I got one in. Well done Perky, now for Pinky.  Thankfully, they trusted me and within 10 minutes, both were in the cage.  Next came the man-power part, without the man. Heavy or what!  We struggled and laughed and struggled some more to get the cage lifted up onto a car trailer.  At this point, the new owner pulled into the driveway and thankfully, he took over. Thanks Ian.

Monday 18th July

Viwers came yesterday and I am delighted to say, and I have confirmation today,  that they have decided to buy our longest residing residents, 11 month old boys – Pinky and Perky.  They came, they fell in love, now they are coming back to take them home.  We are very pleased that they go to a wonderful home, but I am very sad to lose them.

The adult micro pigs have begun their yearly moulting – long hair falling out with a few millimetres new growth underneath. That should cool them down a bit.

Penelope’s piglets are now 4 weeks old and are looking well rounded and chubby.  Not only are they getting nutrients and milk from their mother but they are also starting to eat the dry food they we give Penelope every day.

You are welcome to come and view them but cannot be released for a few weeks yet.

Sunday 3rd July

Less than a week old and the baby piglets were venturing outside with mum.  Now two weeks old and already they are having a little go at trying out mums food.  Thankfully they are all looking very healthy and mum is doing a great job at looking after them. Well done Penelope!

Sunday 19th June

Saturday evening, around 9.30 pm, I went to check on all the animals, when I noticed Penelope’s water tub unusually emptied out of water and sitting inside her house. Strange!  I also heard a very loud snoring noise from her, also unusual. So, I stepped inside, and there was a newly born piglet infront of me and another, first born, moving around.  She was obviously still in labour by the noises and actions she was taking, so I waved to my children to come and see, even though they were just about to go to bed.  They got their first glimps of one of our newly born piglets last night.   They were really excited and were amazed at how it all happened.

Anyway, as a result, we now have a litter of piglets for sale.

Thursday 12th May

A sad farewel to our last two piglets that left us today. We are very pleased that they are going together to a lovely couple: Alison and Nigel.

 Goodbye Platsy

  Sunday 8th May

After 2 viewings today, I am pleased to say that all three piglets have been reserved.  Platsy will be living on a farmyard environment, while Blacky and Pink triangle are staying together.  They will all be leaving us in the week.

Saturday 23rd April

All the pigs have been out enjoying the fabulous sunshine – not too hot, but juuuust right for basking in.  I have occasionally been feeding the piglets by hand and they are alot more friendly and not so ‘jumpy’.  They are getting to know us very well and appreciate a little rub under the chin. Oh, they are georgeous!

Saturday 2nd April

The piglets have been pining somewhat for their mother, but they are are doing very well and looking very healthy.  They are still very scared of us humanz when we visit them but showing signs of some curiosity about us.
